Synthesis of phosphoanalogues of histidine and carnosine

Abstract: Earlier unknown β-imidazolyl-α-aminoethylphosphonous acid (His-P_H) was synthesized by the addition of hypophosphorous acid to the imidazolylacetaldehyde oxime and then converted into βAla-His-P_H. Both P_H-compounds were oxidized into the corresponding phosphonic acids by treatment with S0₂C1₂ in glacial acetic acid.
